Time for new beginnings as Rosh Hashanah approaches

What a world of difference and perspective when you hear from our future leaders. The Shabbat message for the last two weeks was from young adults who have completed a summer student placement at the Jewish Federation of Edmonton. Thanks to Canada Summer Jobs, Sam Oshry and Almog Mazor joined our team. While the time has flown by, their presence has enhanced our team. This is the third year they have awarded us this grant. It’s been a wonderful addition to our office, and a meaningful experience for our up-and-coming community members. I hope you took the time to read their messages.

Having a strong team in place allowed us to seize the opportunity to present an advanced screening of the movie Golda. For those who were present, it was a chance to be with and in community for a shared experience. I am excited to gather again on September 10, when we launch the United Jewish Appeal campaign for 2023. Our strategic plan is making great strides, and I am eager to have conversations with you about how we are supporting and strengthening our community. Please join us for a kosher reception, and a delightful performance from a quartet of musicians flying in from our partner region in Israel. You can register now.

From PJ Library to Hillel, we have a burst of energy planning for the year ahead. You can find PJ Library events on our community calendar. We are also welcoming Jacob Oshry as our new Hillel Director, and you can reach him at hilleledmonton@edjfed.org. We want to give a special thank you to the Shoctor family who has generously made a Hillel space available again to the group this coming year.

As we have entered the month of Elul and lead up to the high holidays, I hope that while you are taking the time for reflection; you are taking the time to refresh and recharge.
